What I wore today: That 70s show

Oversized tinted aviators, hair that decided to part itself down the middle like it was suddenly channelising its inner Moses, a Ritu Kumar floral cotton kurti in mint green (a gift from my sis in law), Marks and Spencer jeggings, and my ubiquitous Kolhapuri chappals in cream and gold bought from Mahabaleshwar which I’ve been using forever and more. The pop of pink in the border I tried to echo with a pop of a similar shade in the lipstick, Lakme 9 to 5, Pink Ambition, which is looking strangely deeper here. Nice?

What I wore yesterday: Denim and black

(Me with Meghna Pant, holding our respective books.)

My all time comfort dressing is denim and black. I can wear it anytime, anyplace, anywhere and on days when I don’t really want to think about what I am wearing, this is my go to look. At the SheThePeople Women Writers’ Fest Mumbai yesterday at Title Waves Bandra, I wore a full sleeved black top with a slight shimmer to it, my old jeans with a brown raw leather belt and my usual tan T-Strap Bata Sandals. A bright red lipstick always saves the day, this one was a Lakme 9 to 5 Creaseless 09 that stayed put through an entire long day and a couple of sandwiches and coffee.

Today, for the Tinder And SheThePeople.TV Conversations on #LoveAndFreedom, this is what I wore. An old jacket I’d bought from Fashion Street when I was in college (which makes that jacket older that some of those attending the event today), a jersey striped vest styled dress gifted by a cousin visiting from the USA, tan boots from Lulu & Sky, love them because they are so darned comfortable and lined with the softest fleece ever. I quite loved the look, what do you think?

Pooja Priyamvada on flexi-dressing, chiffon and black

This is a look in one of my most favorite colors- Blue. A simple Tokyo talkies dress and jacket with blue medium sized pearls and black kitten heels, perfect for my fibromyalgia joints that rule out pumps now completely.
I like flexi-dressing a lot, where I can just change the look from formal to casual by just removing the jacket and pearls.

This short chiffon dress was worn for a casual outing with my girls, I love the browns to break the monotony of my mostly black wardrobe. The similar shade Mary Janes make the outfit and me both appear youthful and playful.

I love lot of casual dressing, a pink front panel shirt by bronz paired with a regular blue jeans and some golden ballerinas, perfect for a casual outing. When comfort and color combine the effect usually is calm and impressive and I like that.
BLACK
As they say one can never go wrong with black, it is my favorite color and here I team a long ankle length kurta with a plain black gypsy skirt inside, warm and cosy for Delhi winters with a black turtle neck.

About this morning

fullsizerender-29-e1552112876321.jpg

When you have fifteen minutes to shower and get ready. The hair is still damp, the war paint yet to go on in its entirety. The outfit is old faithful, a black suede cropped jacket which was a gift from a dear friend, black shell top that I seem to be wearing with everything, ankle cropped comfort fit denims and tan suede clogs, with a tan raw leather belt. That I slept at 3 am is evident in the sludgepool under the eyes.

Deepali Naair on her love for antique silver jewellery

How did I start collecting antique silver jewellery?
Back in 80s and 90s, I used to be a kathak performer, very often on stage. Big and bold jewellery was a key accessory to the Kathak costumes. Because the glass bangles would break and I would get hurt during performances, my mother bought me silver jewellery which would not get stolen during costume changes and would also not break. The jewellery in those days was not finished in antique look but was the shiny silver glaring look ideal for the stage. Then came circa post MBA of the sales stint which took me travelling to villages in Orissa and also Tier 2 cities in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Once again the silver jewellery came to the rescue of the young Marwari bride who cannot be not wearing jewellery. This time it was worn with work clothes and not costumes and finished in antique style (polish). The silver jewellery from Rajasthan was a rage in Mumbai and the pieces were unique. Thus started a life-long habit of acquiring pieces which are unique. The collection is now my pride as it also reflects timeless taste and my sense of design. The best compliment I have received is from a young friend who requested that I include her in my will to inherit at least one of my pieces!

Going neon

everyday style, fashion

FullSizeRender (28)

I normally shy away from bright colours, but this neon green shirt with gold buttons is something that the offspring shoe horned me into yesterday. “Why do you only wear black and dull colours?” he grumbled, and I was forced to concede he had a point. Why do I only wear black and dull colours, what is the mind block that makes me think I draw too much attention to myself if I wear a bright colour? This is something I need to examine and conquer, and wear bright colours with panache.

The rest of me was rather drab, I concede, dressed up in a rush, with my standard denims, tan T Strap Bata faithfuls and a yellow Woodland square shoulder bag.

The blouse though, added all the colour I could ever need. Tell me, do you shy away from bright colours too?

Pardon the blurry photography skills in this one, it is the offspring clicking, and I must concede he always makes me look just that bit more softly and indulgently into the camera.

Animal print rules

Much before animal print was a trend, I was wearing this leopard print Zara shirt and this silk python print blouse everywhere, so much so that I am now completely done with the trend, right when the world is taking it up and how.

These are pics from 2018 and 2016. And now, leopard and snake is everywhere you look, in the stores, on the fashion instagrammers, on the catwalks.

What is the trend you’ve been bucking much before the world caught on?

Denim and chiffon

While denim is my standard go to look for every single thing–I think I’m going to write it into my funeral instructions that I go off to the electric crematorium in jeans, t-shirt and sneakers-I try to jazz it up a bit for times when I’m on display. This is a royal blue empire line top in chiffon with some diamante at the waist, of indeterminate origin bought off some store in Lokhandwala market, worn with a pearl and blue stone chain (which of course has gone awry given I can never keep all parts of self in coherent assemblage). The bag is a huge black Zara which fits in everything plus the kitchen sink, and some more. Sometimes I suspect if I fall into my handbag, I might just emerge into an alternate universe. Does that happen with you too?

I am such a sucker for animal print and camouflage I can wear them everywhere. For a day out on town, here’s a quick and easy look that always works. A straight fit camouflage print shirt dress off Myntra, a textured suede camouflage print jacket (forget where I picked this one up from), tan ankle boots from Lulu & Sky, and a small textured studded bag from Nine West. Like?
